Credit Card Payments
You can pay your bill using any major credit card: However, members will be responsible for any fees involved in processing the credit/debit card payment. These fees are passed directly to the credit card agent with the Cooperative receiving only the amount of your electric bill and none of the processing fees. Just call the Shelby Energy office closest to you for information.
Levelized & Fixed Billing
Smooth out your monthly electric bills and avoid those seasonal fluctuations. Call for details or print form below.
Bank Draft Service
Another convenient option to pay your electric bill is through our BANKDRAFT service. Your bank account will be debited on the due date of the bill each month. Just contact our office for the necessary form and supply us with a voided check of the account to be debited. With the BANKDRAFT service you may elect to receive an e-bill rather than a paper bill. It's that easy! To sign up for bank draft, print the form below and mail or bring it in to our offices.
Extension and Payment Arrangement Plans
If you are having problems paying your bill, arrangements can be made on an individual basis to extend payments. Payment arrangements can be made by telephone if the extension is 30 days or less or an over 30 day extension can be made in person at our Bedford or Shelbyville office.
Drive-Up Window and Night Deposit Drop Box
A drive-up window is available for making payments during business hours at the Shelbyville office. And, night deposit boxes are available for making payments after business hours at both locations. Walk-in payments may be made at either the Bedford or Shelbyville office.

Member-Ownership Credits (Capital Credits)
Member-ownership or "capital credits" are the member's share of what is left over after the Cooperative pays its expenses every year. Normally, Shelby Energy retains this money for two reasons:
* As working capital to keep the organization financially sound and to allow for emergencies, such as storm damage, which might require the replacement of poles and power lines; and
* To retire debt and build equity in the system.
When the Cooperative is financially able , funds are returned to Shelby Energy members in proportion to the amount of electricity they have consumed over the years. In this way, Shelby Energy demonstrates one of the basic principles of cooperative organizations -- member ownership.
Sometimes people mistakenly believe that capital credits are refunds. Not so -- they are the member's share of the margins a cooperative has at the end of the year.
Future retirement of capital credits will depend on general economic conditions and the cooperative's own financial condition.
Refund of any accumulated capital credits are payable to the estate of deceased members. Application must be made in person at our Bedford or Shelbyville office. It is the goal of Shelby Energy's Board of Directors to issue payments for settling estates in a timely manner.
